Frequently asked questions

New to tap, coming back after a break, or already one of our regulars? Wondering what to wear, or which class is right for you? Don't worry, we've got you covered! At Glamour Puss Studios, we believe tap dancing is for everyone, and beginners are always welcome. Whether you're taking your very first steps or you're a seasoned tapper, you'll find a welcoming community ready to help you find your rhythm.

Getting Started

Can I learn tap dancing as an adult?

Absolutely! Glamour Puss Studios specialises in adult dance classes, and it's never too late to start tap dancing. Whether you're in your twenties, nineties or somewhere in between, you're welcome here. You don't need to have danced before. All you need is a willingness to give it a go and have some fun.

I've never danced before. Can I still join?

Of course! We have classes specifically for absolute beginners, so you can learn the basics at a comfortable pace. Everyone starts somewhere, and you certainly don't need to arrive knowing a shuffle from a flap. Our teachers will guide you through the steps, and you'll be surprised at what you can learn. Two left feet? No problem. We can work with that!

I'm nervous about coming to my first class. What if I'm terrible?

First of all, you're probably not going to be nearly as terrible as you imagine! Walking into a new class can feel daunting, especially if you've never danced before. That's why we work hard to create a friendly, supportive environment where you can learn without feeling judged. Nobody expects you to get everything right straight away. We all make mistakes, we all have a laugh, and we help each other along the way. Your first class is free, so you can come along, meet us and see what you think. We can't promise you'll master every step on day one, but we can promise you don't need to be perfect to belong here.

Do I need to be fit, flexible or coordinated?

Not at all! You don't need to be particularly fit, flexible or coordinated to get started. Tap dancing is a great way to get moving, improve your coordination and challenge yourself while having fun. You'll build your skills as you go, at your own pace. Just choose a class that suits your current ability, and we'll take it from there. If you have an injury or mobility concerns, please contact us before booking so we can help you work out whether a particular class is suitable.

How old do I need to be to join?

Glamour Puss Studios is an adult dance school. There's no minimum age, but if you're under 18, please get in touch with us before you book. We welcome adults of different ages and backgrounds, and there's no upper age limit on learning something new. Whether you're looking for a new hobby, a way to keep active, a creative outlet or a chance to meet new people, we'd love to welcome you.

What should I wear to my first class?

Whatever you feel comfortable moving in! Leggings, exercise clothes, shorts, skirts or trousers are all fine. Choose something that allows you to move freely and comfortably. There's no need to dress up or buy a special dance outfit. Save the sequins for show night if you fancy!

Do I need tap shoes?

No! You don't need to buy tap shoes before your first class. You can wear comfortable, flat shoes with hard soles, or borrow a pair of our tap shoes free of charge. Just bring socks if you'd like to use our loaner shoes. If you decide you love tap dancing and want to keep coming, we can help you work out what shoes to buy.

Is my first class really free?

Yes! Your first class at Glamour Puss Studios is completely free, with one free trial class per person. It covers any of our tap or Broadway Jazz classes (Line dancing isn't included). Bring a friend, and you each get your first class free. It's a chance to try tap dancing, meet our teachers, get a feel for the studio and see whether we're the right fit for you. Choose a suitable class on our timetable and book your free trial. If you're unsure which class to choose, get in touch and we'll help you.

Our Classes

What types of dance classes do you offer?

Tap dancing is our speciality, with classes for a range of abilities, from absolute beginners through to intermediate and advanced dancers. We also offer other dance experiences, including Adult Broadway Jazz, Line dancing and Seated Tap & Percussion. Whether you want to learn a new skill, improve your technique, dance to your favourite music or simply have a laugh with a lovely group of people, there's plenty to explore. Our timetable shows the classes currently available. Line dancing isn't included in the free first class. Regular classes finish on Friday 4 December, then Summer School starts.

How do I know which tap class is right for me?

We offer different classes to suit different experience levels.

  • Absolute beginners adult tap: Perfect if you've never tapped before and want to learn the fundamentals. Thursday at 6pm, or Saturday at 9am.
  • Beginners plus Adult Tap: For dancers who have developed some basic skills and are ready to build their confidence and repertoire.
  • Beg plus to Int Adult Tap (Mondays 6:30pm): for tappers who've outgrown Beginners plus and are working towards Intermediate.
  • Intermediate Adult Tap: For dancers with more experience who want to continue developing their technique and learn more challenging dances.
  • Int/Adv Adult Tap: For experienced tappers who are ready for a greater challenge.

Class descriptions on our timetable provide more information about individual sessions. If you're not sure where you fit, don't worry! Contact us, tell us a little about your dance experience, and we'll help you find a suitable class.

Do you have daytime classes?

Yes! Tap and Tea runs Tuesdays at 1:30pm. It's a tap class for absolute beginners followed by tea, biccies and a good chat. Message us to book your spot.

Can I try more than one class?

Absolutely! Many of our students enjoy attending multiple classes each week. You can choose the classes that suit your interests and schedule, and our pricing options make attending more than one class more affordable. If you're considering adding another class, check our current pricing and timetable for the available options.

Do you perform in shows?

Yes! We organise performance opportunities where students can showcase what they've been learning, dance with their classmates and experience the excitement of performing. Our shows are a wonderful way to celebrate everyone's progress and bring our community together. However, performing is optional. You can absolutely come along to classes purely for the enjoyment of dancing. There's no pressure to take part in a show if that's not your thing.

Can I join if I've danced before but haven't tapped in years?

Definitely! We'd love to help you get back into it. You might be surprised by how much comes back once you start moving again. Depending on your previous experience, we can help you find a class that challenges you without throwing you straight into the deep end. Get in touch and tell us a little about your dance background so we can recommend a suitable class.

Prices and Bookings

How much do classes cost?

Your first class is free, so you can try us out before spending a cent. After your free trial, you can choose between casual classes and fortnightly memberships. Our published prices are:

  • First class: Free (one trial per person).
  • Casual class: $26 per class.
  • Second casual class in the same week: $16.
  • One class per week membership: $42 per fortnight.

Do I have to sign up for a membership?

No! You can attend casually if that suits your lifestyle. If you'd prefer to dance regularly, our fortnightly memberships offer a lower per-class price. You can decide which option works best for you after trying your first class. There's no need to commit to a membership just to give tap dancing a go.

What if I go on holiday or need to take a break?

Life gets busy, and we understand that! Our memberships don't have a minimum term and can be paused or cancelled in line with the membership terms. If you need a break, get in touch and we'll explain the options available for your membership.

How do I book a class?

It's easy! Visit our website and open the class timetable to see the available sessions. Choose the class you'd like to attend and follow the booking instructions.
